Lighting, downlights and extra sockets in Folkestone and Kent
Lighting is the job that changes how a room feels for the least money of anything an electrician does. A kitchen with proper downlights and something over the island is a different room, and it is a day's work rather than a project.
Downlights run £350 to £600 a room. An extra socket is £90 to £150. Swapping a pendant or fitting a dimmer is inside the first hour, so it is £80 including the call out.

What we fit most
- LED downlights. The standard kitchen and bathroom job. Fire rated where they go through a ceiling that needs it, and dimmable if you want them to be.
- Feature and pendant lighting. Over an island, a dining table or a stairwell. The photographs on this site are mostly these.
- Under cabinet lighting. The cheapest thing you can do to a kitchen that makes it feel finished.
- Bathroom lighting and illuminated mirrors. Zoned properly for the room.
- Extra sockets and USB sockets. Single to double conversions, new sockets on an existing circuit, and the kitchen upgrades that come with a new worktop.
What moves the price
Two things, mostly.
- How many fittings. Six downlights in a kitchen is not four in a bedroom.
- What is above the ceiling. An accessible loft above is straightforward. A bedroom floor above, with joists running the wrong way, is what makes a room the top of the range rather than the bottom.
Labour is £80 for the first hour, which is also the minimum for any visit and covers the call out, then £48 an hour after that. Jobs of five hours or more are £48 an hour throughout. No VAT is charged on domestic work.
If you supply the fittings it is labour only. If we supply them they go on at cost plus a markup, and you are told before anything is bought.
Smart lighting and controls
Dimmers, smart switches, Nest, Hive, Tado and Alexa or Google controlled fittings all get wired in as normal jobs. Most are inside an hour or two. If you have bought the kit already, bring it out of the box before we arrive and it goes quicker.
