How much does an EV charger installation cost in Kent?
Short answer first. A home EV charger installation with us comes in from £750, and the majority land between £750 and £1,200 fitted with a 7kW unit. Where you sit in that range depends on the job, which is why we look at it before we give you a fixed price. This page explains what the price covers and what moves it.
What does the price cover?
Three things.
- The unit. A 7kW charger, which is what almost every home install wants.
- The installation. The cable from your consumer unit to the charger, the isolation, and any board work the charger needs to sit behind.
- The notification. Your network operator has to be told a charger has gone in, and that is our job rather than yours. Where the work is notifiable, the notification to Building Control is handled as part of the job.
All completed work is inspected, tested and certificated through a registered contractor we work with, and we provide all the required certificates.
What moves the price?
Distance from the board. A charger on the garage wall next to the consumer unit is the cheap end of the range. One on the far side of the house is not, because the cable has further to go.
What is in the way. Crossing a driveway, a path or a flower bed is normal, and it takes more work than a straight run along a wall. The same goes for going through a thick wall or round a corner.
The board. Sometimes the board can take a new circuit as it is. Sometimes it is full, or it was already due for replacement, and the charger is what shows it up. If that is the case you hear it before you commit. Our page on what a consumer unit upgrade costs in Kent covers that side.
Where the car parks. Not where you would like it to park. The cable has to reach the socket on the car, and the charger goes where that works.
Why do you not give a fixed price over the phone?
Because the job is decided by things a phone call cannot see. We would rather look first and give you a number that holds than quote a low figure that grows once the cable route turns out to be longer than anyone thought. The survey is free, and once the job has been seen you get a fixed price. If the survey shows the job needs more than the range above, you hear it before you decide.
Can I get a grant for a home charger?
Grants for home chargers change, and at the moment the government grant is for renters and flat owners with their own off-street parking, not for owners of houses. Check the conditions on gov.uk before you buy.
What if I have already bought a charger?
Tell us when you ask for a quote and we will tell you the price. The published range is for a 7kW unit supplied and fitted by us.
Do you fit chargers for businesses?
Yes. For staff, customers or a fleet, the questions are load across the site and how many units the incoming supply will carry at once. That needs a look rather than a phone quote, and the survey is still free.
How do I get a price?
Send photos of three things: your consumer unit, the parking spot where the charger would go, and the route the cable would take. Our page on EV charger installation in Folkestone and Kent has the detail, and the other prices are on the price guide.
From £750 is a starting point, not a quote. Send photos of the consumer unit, the parking spot and the cable route, and ask for a free quote. If anything smells of burning at your fuse box, ring 999 first, switch off at the consumer unit if it is safe to reach, then call us.
